Our work with natural materials.

8th April 2022

So often in design it can be easiest to reshape natural elements to suite a vision, but for our new meeting table we wanted our vision to be shaped by the natural elements we used. We started with a British Elm timber board which originated in the woodlands of Leith Hall in Scotland. It was carefully selected through visits and meetings with the timber supplier English Woodlands Timber for its size, shape and character. We removed only what was necessary and worked the timber to achieve a finish that would preserve and enhance it’s character. We designed the legs to wrap around and hold the trunk, rather than anything that would penetrate or perforate the material. This philosophy of working with natural materials, and celebrating natural form and variation is central to our approach as a studio.
