This week we’ve spoken to Daniel Aubrey, one of our architects on the team, about a favourite architect of his, Jørn Utzon.

“I like to look at Utzon’s work when I feel like I’m getting lost in abstraction because I find his commitment to simple, iconographic form expressed through structure to be grounding. Of course an opera house in a harbour should be reminiscent of sails on a horizon, and of course the ceiling of a place of worship should be reminiscent of a parting in rolling clouds. His design for Bagsværd Church is something special. First, the concept brings the experience and grandeur of a Renaissance fresco into space, and then the form and material work to direct and soften the light coming into the church. The combined effect is a mystifying and ethereal space to stand in, true to its function. And I haven’t even touched on the masterful exterior. Seriously, check it out!”
